About World Food Garden

The mission of World Food Garden is to connect food gardens across the world and help people start their own. In doing this we will show what the world has the potential to be – a giant cross-pollinating ecosystem filled with food gardens!

This is important because we believe much of the world’s environmental, economic, and political issues could be alleviated if everyone in the world tended a food garden or sourced their food from a garden nearby. During the early part of last century, 40% of all produce consumed in the UK, the USA and Canada was grown in home gardens. WFG is dedicated to helping countries across the world reach 40% home food production.

World Food Garden’s crowd-sourced infrastructure facilitates the cross pollination of ideas and gardening knowledge to do just that. We offer:

  • Maps of food gardens across the world
  • Location specific gardening information
  • Get-started gardening tutorials
  • Platforms for sharing knowledge and solving problems
  • Avenues to connect with and build your local and global food garden community
  • Opportunities to contribute your own garden information to our crowd-sourced database

Through the application of these tools we will build a world full of productive, sustainable, food gardens.

Gardening is a powerful act that can be used to keep our minds, bodies and planet healthy. Every garden, from a window box tomato to a whole back yard, which is added to the map, will grow to make a huge difference. World Good Garden provides a framework to change and cross-pollinate the food world. Through application of the tools listed above and participation in our Garden Warriors and Garden Mentor programs there is a way for everyone to get involved.

There are enough resources for everyone on Earth, so long as we show each other how to use them. We hope you to use World Food Garden to “Connect, Share Learn and Grow Food!” and help us build a well-fed world.
